There is a massive amount of essential technology devices out there that
makes our life’s easier. Calculators, computer, construction machines. But
there’s only one device that I can’t live without, the keyboard.
At first I was not interested in keyboards. The first time I discover it
was in my grandmother’s house, she uses to have an old computer and I use to
take every opportunity that she gave me to play with it. My favorite game was
Age of Empires and, until now, I’m pretty good at it. But the game has hotkeys
that allow me to do thing more quickly, so I tried to learn how use these
hotkeys and improve my game style. And that is the moment that my interest in “how
to use a keyboard” start to grow.
When I grew up I start to create stories in my mind, but quickly I began to forget them. I was just too lazy to put those ideas on a note. But one day I visit my mom’s job and there was a typewriter or writing machine. I was bored and my mom let me use it and, for some reason, it was the best evening of my entire life. I was able to write whatever I wanted and I was happy just to see my ideas and stories became a real book page.
I imagined myself being a writer and
making people enjoy the stories I wrote.
I tried to look for more excuses to go to my mother’s job again but I couldn’t
return. I was angry because I wanted to use the typewriter again and writing in the computer wasn’t the same! But I finally gave up with that.
I became pretty good at writing with a conventional keyboard and even my
parents were surprised at how fast I was able to type.
Recently, I bought a mechanical keyboard for myself, it has leds and
customized keycaps for "gamers". It’s awesome! I use it to write my novel and short stories
for myself (because I’m too bashful about my own material).
I almost write every day in my computer and I cannot imagine me try to
write large texts just with a pencil. It just couldn’t be possible for me, maybe I'd give up before I started; I’m too used to type.
